Why do my affirmations stop working?
It’s normal when you first write an affirmation to feel inspired by it, only to have it fade after a few weeks and “stop working”. Losing inerest in your affirmations is an important signal from your subconscious mind that something has changed - but it can mean two very different things:
1. Affirmation successful! There’s no way of knowing how many times your subconscious mind needs to hear an affirmation in order for it to be successful in communicating confidence, or trust in yourself, or acknowledging your true qualities, but you will know when you subconsciously accept this message, because you will lose interest in hearing it. This is telling you that you’ve absorbed the solution into your life, you can build on this new faith in yourself, expand your horizon, and grow stronger.
2. Affirmation developing… If an affirmation feels wonderfull and you start using it, only to feel it pulling away from you and seeming too good to be true, you will also lose interest in it, not because you have achieved it, but because you don’t believe it. This is the most common reason why people give up on their affirmations, but to me this is valuable feedback from your subconscious mind, telling me to look for smaller steps, or hidden complications that are preventing you from believing that, for exanple: you deserve happiness, love, or success. The solution is to develop intermediate affiramtions that talk about the details or correct biased beliefs against your self, and resolve those deeper layers so that you can believe your original affirmation.
How does it feel having multiple Affirmation Soundtracks?
It feels comprehensive. You decide which soundtrack you feel you need, according to the kind of day you’re having. Your first one might be a big picture view of the life you want that sometimes feels hard to believe, the second may be some detail about your life that proves you can believe the big picture. You may also have a third that deals specifically with a trauma that you are recovering from, building your self-esteem and reassuring you that you deserve to be respected and valued for who you are. You could even have a fourth that validates the work you’ve done, and stands on that evidence to enable the next level of your growth.

Why is a series of affirmation soundtracks more effective than a single one?
Neuroplasticity means your brain is always learning. Every time you repeat something new, your brain learns and improves by making new connections between neurons, and “Neurons that fire together wire together,” as neuroscientist Donald Hebb described it. But Hebb also understood that when we engage in learning, we’re not only building on what we’ve already learned, we actually improve at the process of learning. Each time we learn a new subconscious habit, the brain finds it easier, so when you start working with you second soundtrack, you’re not the same learner you were when you started the first one.
What’s involved in making Personal Affirmation Soundtracks?
We develop your affirmations in the conversational part of your sessions before hypnosis. I’m always on the lookout for words and phrases that not only describe what you want, but also and very importantly, resonate with you emotionally. Your affirmations can develop over several sessions or if you like we can dedicate a whole session to affirmation writing, although I suggest we record them only when you have a strong emotional resonance with each one. Emotions communicate far more powerfully with your subconscious mind than words. If you’ve already developed your own affirmations that you love and that make you feel amazing, you can skip this step and go strait to recording.
If you’d like your affirmations recorded in your own voice, we use two devices. I coach you during an online session on your laptop, in using a tone for your affirmations that is calm and reassuring, sounding confident that you know your affirmations are true. While in the Doxy.me live session you record your affirmations as a voice note on your phone, while I’m still there to guide you if needed, keeping your tone calm and confident. Most people are surprised by how they sound when they speak that way. You then send me the voice note file and I take it from there. If you’d prefer your affirmations in my voice, I record your affirmations in my own time. Either way, your soundtrack arrives in your inbox the next day.
What makes Andrew’s affirmations effective for actual change?
Most affirmations use direct language patterns: “Every day I make clear, considered decisions that move me forward.” This works for some people, but not everyone receives this kind of direct suggestion subconsciously. Studies in suggestibility reveal that only half of any population responds to this kind of affirmation - for the rest, a more inferential approach is needed, that describes the change emotionally instead of using direct statements: “I feel calm and certain as I trust my instincts and follow what I know feels right.” If the wrong language is used, your subconscious mind simply rejects your affirmations, no matter how many times you repeat them.
The extent to which you require emotional or sensory cues in your affirmations is something I can only discover by listening to you in our sessions, where I suggest an idea for an affirmation using certain wording, you respond, and by your responses I learn your language. So the affirmations we develop are personal to your situation, but they’re also worded personally, in your subconscious language, so that you will receive them subconsciously. This is why generic affirmations feel hollow, and why the same affirmation that transforms one person does nothing for another, but the affirmations that we develop feel different from anything you’ve tried before.
