When is a longer course of hypnotherapy the right choice?
If you’ve decided to work through something that requires a significant change to old patterns in your mindset or lifestyle, or a situational change that’s complicated and challenging, a lot of people prefer this longer course. Managing each session week by week, quickly becomes an additional stress that often results in postponing the work you’ve decided to do. Situations that are toxic or depressing are difficult to move through, and exhausting. Time passes quickly when you’re struggling with the weight of an emotional loss, and remembering to book a weekly session can seem trivial, even though it ultimately could be of tremendous value.
A longer course helps you through the procrastination in the early stages of hypnotherapy, where your neuroplasticity is still awakening. You need consistency and repetition, and momentum, to allow your brain to learn new behaviors. When you start working on old, deep seated patterns, progress is slow and it’s easy to fall into doubting and questioning whether your hypnotherapy sessions are working, before they’ve had a chance to work.
How does it feel going through nine hours of hypnotherapy?
Deciding to commit to this course makes it easier to focus more clearly on the work you’ve decided to do, without worrying about admin. Having a standing session on a certain day every week gives your subconscious mind a predictable routine which makes you feel safe, knowing that whatever happens during the week, you can talk about it in your session. The routine is fundamental to establishing trust between your conscious and subconscious mind, allowing your new healthy habits to be accepted with plenty of time to consider your options and develop confidence in the solution you choose. It’s a relief not to be wondering whether to book again, or whether you’ve made enough progress to justify another session.
The soundtracks in the Soul Sanctuary provide vital early support for meditation and sleeping, and your three Personal Affirmation Soundtracks give your mind the repetition it needs during the during the course, to activate your neuroplasticity when you start, and provide two more stages of affirmations as you progress. The sessions in the package are flexible - you can select 60, 90 or 120 minutes, and if you feel you need two sessions a week you can do that. In your later sessions, you’ll be working with material that wasn’t accessible to you earlier - that means you’re making progress with your dream work, allowing deeper memories and feelings to surface in a safe, controlled way.

How it works – The science behind psychoacoustics and affirmations
Psychoacoustics is the study of the effect that certain sound frequencies have on brain states. When your brainwaves naturally synchronize with an audio frequency it’s called the frequency following response - or brainwave entrainment - and I’ve been designing my own psychoacoustic soundtracks since 2010. When I began practicing online, I was concerned that online hypnotherapy would feel distant, and my clients would miss the presence of a therapist in the same room, so I designed a soundtrack to stream behind my voice during sessions. When you listen with headphones and close your eyes, the sound takes you into a different world - I might as well be in the same room.
Your brain’s ability to continue learning throughout your adult life by rehearsing and repeating new knowledge is called neuroplasticity - “Neurons that fire together wire together,” as neuroscientist Donald Hebb described it. Your Personal Affirmation Soundtrack uses this principle daily: listening to your affirmations mixed over the same psychoacoustic frequencies from your session lets you mentally rehearse your solution in a receptive state, and with repetition your mind learns to think this way, forming a new subconscious habit. The session opens the door - the soundtrack lets you rehearse walking through it every day, building the consistency your mind needs to gather momentum in those early weeks.
What’s it like being hypnotized online vs listening to the affirmations?
When it feels like we’ve come to an understanding about how to resolve the issues we’ve been discussing in the first part of your session, I suggest that we begin hypnosis. If you agree, you make yourself comfortable so you can relax your head and close your eyes, I start the psychoacoustic soundtrack at a soft volume, and use a spoken relaxation technique to take you into a deep state similar to a daydream - dreaming but not sleeping - relaxed but aware of what I am saying. The soundtrack creates a world in which you can visualize or imagine what I’m saying more clearly and vividly, and with more emotional engagement than you would in a normal daydream.
You are conscious throughout and able to communicate, although most people don’t feel the need to say anything because the script I use contains only solutions that we spoke about before going into hypnosis. There are no surprises, just a rehearsal space free of judgment, where you can consider your options, try out solutions, and discern more clearly what you want to do. This is so rewarding for me - when I bring my clients out of hypnosis they’re usually smiling, feeling that they’ve had a chance to stop and consider their options, and feel the pull of the solution that works for them.
Your affirmation soundtrack is a different kind of experience - quieter, more private, entirely yours. You hear your own voice, or mine, mixed over the same hypnotic sounds from your session, in a calm world that invites you to relax and listen. Most people listen in the morning to set their focus for the day, or at night to let their subconscious absorb the work while they sleep. There’s no effort required - just the growing sense, over days and weeks, that the way you think about your situation is quietly shifting.
Is psychoacoustic hypnotherapy safe?
Yes - and it’s worth understanding why. The frequency following response is equally dependent on your consent, as your agreeing to be hypnotized. The soundtrack doesnt “put your mind into a receptive state” - it only gives you the frequency, which if you agree to follow, makes your hypnotic state deeper and more effective, and helps you to focus on the session, eliminating distractions in the room around you. You recognize all the suggestions you receive during the session because we’ve been discussing and developing those solutions in the conversation part of the session, before hypnosis.
If your online hypnotherapist is a properly educated licensed professional with good reviews, it’s safe to leave danger in movies - but it’s important to talk about control. Hypnosis is a receptive state in which you are suggestible to what your hypnotherapist is saying. You could say this makes you the passenger and the hypnotherapist your driver - my job is navigating the subconscious mind, which is difficult for you to do, so you trust me to do it. In a taxi you can look around and reassure yourself that you’re going the right way, and hypnosis is not so different - you’re not paralyzed or incapacitated or knocked out - that’s stage hypnosis. When hypnotherapy is practiced correctly, you would reject any suggestion that is against your beliefs - you would get up and be irritated and angry. If I ever saw that it would mean I’m bad at my job!
I can’t make you do or say anything that you don’t want to. Using force in hypnotherapy is contradictory because hypnosis is consensual - if you like the solution we are discussing, you agree to rehearse it in hypnosis, along with other techniques I may select: Meditation training is standard, it helps you to relax and develop a calm authority in your mind. I quite often use a technique called “Inner Child” in which you imagine meeting yourself as a child, giving advice, and teaching your solution. I also use dream therapy, which allows suppressed memories and events to surface only when you feel safe and strong enough to deal with them. In this way, your subconscious mind is always in control of your memories, and will never let you remember anything that you’re not ready to deal with.
